So today… well actually, yesterday was my 16th birthday. I really wasn’t expecting anything too special. Just my dad taking me out to buy a present for me and then a nice dinner with my family. It turned out to be much more then that. Apparently there was a surprise birthday party that had been in the works for at least a week now (not sure of the details) and my dad taking me out was merely a diversion so that my friends could arrive and help set up the party. To be perfectly honest I had no clue, I was completely surprised. All of them had acted so nonchalant about my birthday and my mom was even trying to convince me to have a party next week (which obviously isn’t going to happen now), that I had no idea this was happening.
It turned out to be an utterly awesome day! I got really great gifts and my first magic deck! Thanks a lot you guys!
For more detail on the actual party read Nick’s post.

One of my all time favourite websites for watching TV shows, movies and more was shut down yesterday, probably for good. Now where are we supposed to go to for our media fix? This really sucks, don’t get me wrong I’ll live (there’s always BitTorrent) but this was such a simple way to access the few shows and movies that I do watch.
According to Wikipedia the owner of the site has been arrested. There’s no word as to whether or not it’ll return. I doubt it will.
Edit: The guardian has a bit more information.

About five years ago my family and I went to Thunder Bay on road. The area from Sault Ste Marie to Thunder Bay was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and to this day I still remember vividly the scenery; the trees, the water and the rocks. A few months ago we drove to Winnipeg taking the same route as last time. However there were some obvious differences. The stumps of the trees could be seen, there were factories by the lake and less animals to be seen. Simply, there was more and more urbanization.

Ever since Nick and I have gotten into the habit of using eBooks as a guide for learning various programming languages, (namely C) I’ve been at odds with the name. I just cannot fathom why anyone would call it an eBook. I suppose the ‘e’ would stand for electrical (or some variation of that word). However I cannot find any proof to that claim or as to why people insist of placing the ‘e’ before the ‘book’.
A digital book would be a far better way of describing the ‘eBook’, or in short, the digibook. If it was up to me that name would have been adopted years ago when the concept of the ‘eBook’ first appeared. Personally, I am going to start referring to them as digibooks in order to bring about a revolution and I encourage each and every one of you to do the same.

Yes, I’ve decided to advertise the RSS to Virial Theorem. It’s really big and at the top of sidebar for easy access. This is all in my, possibly futile, attempts to further the popularity of Virial Theorem.
And you as my loyal subjects can aid me in my quest for blog conquest. Tell people you know about this lovely blog. Advertise it and slip it in everyday conversation. Do this and your king shall be pleased.

A few of you may remember that about a month and a half ago, I pointed out that a Maplestory anime was set to air in japan in the fall. Well it has and unfortunately they aren’t subbed yet so for those of you actually watching, you may not understand them.
However you do not need to understand them to notice how bad it is. I was honestly expecting a lot more (no idea why) but you can judge for yourself:

We are currently in the middle of a rather large thunderstorm, here in quaint Mississauga. Since I don’t keep up with the weather forecast this came as a rather large surprise.
One minute I’m on the computer doing some RoR coding and the next there’s a sudden onslaught of rain. Within 5 minutes there’s lightning and incredibly loud thunder. The electricity in our house went out for a few seconds before returning. Afterwards I decided to forgo the computer and got my camera. My goal: to take a picture of a lighting bolt.
I went to a window in my room, moved the blinds and began taking pictures randomly. Then, after having a rare stroke of intelligence I decided to count the seconds between the lightning and the thunder. Unfortunately that didn’t really help since (Although the lighting was moving away at a somewhat uniform speed) I simply couldn’t predict well enough in such a short time frame. So within 15 minutes I gave up.
And here I am blogging about it as to make up for the long stretches that my beloved readers had to go through without an update from yours truly.
Hopefully next time I’ll get lucky with the pictures.

I have recently developed a love for a new show called Pushing Daisies. Although only one episode has aired so far, I am utterly in love it. I generally don’t get excited about shows or movies, and definitely not enough to blog about them but this one is an exception.
The story is brilliant. Basically a young boy named Ned discovers that he can raise the dead by touching them. As the episode progresses Ned realizes that there are rules for his powers: Once a person is brought back to life, they cannot touch Ned or they will die again and can’t return. If the revived person does not die again within one minute, another person will die to maintain the ‘equilibrium’. One of my favourite aspects of the show is how they portray the revived people. They don’t show them as zombies slowly and menacingly returning from the dead. They seem genuinely happy and glad for the chance at life that Ned has given them, albeit for only 60 seconds.
The show possesses a charming style of humour that I haven’t really seen in a lot of shows, and that in itself draws me to it. In addition Jim Dale, the person who does the Harry Potter audio books, narrates the show and is simply brilliant. It works so well with the style of the show and how it’s filmed. I haven’t been this excited about a new show since House MD and to those that know my love for House realize that this is huge. I would recommend for everyone to watch it.
